CHARLOTTESVILLE - The Virginia women's tennis team announced an addition to this season's roster. Maggie Yahner (Las Vegas, Nev.) has joined the team after transferring from Vanderbilt.

"We are extremely excited to have Maggie join our program," head coach Mark Guilbeau said. "She is a great addition to our team who will make an immediate impact. Even in a short period of time with us, she has shown that she will be a great leader and team person both on and off the court. I know that the team feels the same way as the coaching staff does"

Last season, Yahner had a strong freshman campaign with the Commodores. She had a 13-6 dual match singles record, including a 5-2 mark in the SEC. She played as high as No. 3 singles for Vanderbilt while primarily playing at No. 6. In doubles, she had a 10-5 record, including a 7-4 record at the No. 1 doubles position.

The Cavaliers open the 2007 season this weekend as they host the Virginia Invitational. The six-team, three-day event, begins Friday at the Boyd Tinsley Courts at the Boar's head Sports Club. Friday's play starts at 10:00 a.m. and admission is free.
