Women's Tennis Continues Play at UVa Winter Invitational

CHARLOTTESVILLE The Virginia women’s tennis team had a strong second day of the UVa Winter Invitational Sunday at the Boyd Tinsley Courts at the Boar’s Head Sports Club. The Cavaliers went 5-1 in singles and 3-0 in doubles on the day, playing against Utah.

In doubles, the Cavaliers won all three of their matches. In flight A, the team of Jennifer Stevens (Miami, Fla.) and Emily Fraser (Rye, N.Y.) defeated Anastasia Putilina and Lisa Johnson 8-2. In flight B, Amanda Rales (Bethesda, Md.) and Maggie Yahner (Las Vegas, Nev.) topped Erin Monson and Andrea Maughan 8-5. In Flight C, Lindsey Hardenbergh (Fairfax Station, Va.) and Neela Vaez (Perrysburg, Ohio) won 8-5 over Evgania Kryuchkova and Leigh Walsh.

In singles, Virginia got a win in Flight A from Stevens, who topped Putilina 6-3, 6-0. Hardenbergh won her match in Flight B, defeating Kryuchkova 6-3, 6-3. Rales won in Flight C with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Johnson. In Flight D, Fraser topped Monson 7-5, 6-2 and in Flight E Vaez defeated Walsh 6-2, 6-4.

Play will conclude Monday with play beginning at 9 a.m. Admission is free.
