Virginia's Schweer And Weaver Earn ITA Scholar-Athlete All-America Honors

PRINCETON, N.J. - University of Virginia fourth-year tennis players Christie Schweer (Houston, Texas/Memorial) and Kelly Weaver (Kingston, N.Y./Kingston) have earned Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Scholar-Athlete All-America honors as selected by the ITA National Awards Committee. In addition, the Cavaliers are one of 73 Division I women's tennis teams that earned All-Academic Team honors.

Virginia earned ITA All-Academic Team honors with an impressive 3.41 team GPA. The ITA All-Academic Team award is open to any ITA program that has a cumulative team grade point average of 3.20 or above (on a 4.0 scale).

Schweer served as one of Virginia's tri-captains in 1999-2000. She was UVa's #2 singles player last year and finished the season with an 18-17 singles record and an 11-18 mark in doubles play. Schweer and doubles partner Leslie Cook have been ranked in the top 50 during portions of the past two seasons. They finished the 1999-2000 season ranked 11th in the East Region. In addition to earning the ITA award, Schweer was named to the 1999-2000 ACC Academic Honor Roll. It marked the third consecutive year she has earned the ACC academic honor.

Weaver also served as a tri-captain in 1999-2000 and played #6 singles for the Cavaliers. She posted an impressive 24-13 record and tied for team-high honors in singles victories. Weaver was also 18-10 in doubles play in 1999-2000. She was named a 2000 ACC Singles Flight Champion at #6 singles. Weaver has also been named to the ACC Academic Honor Roll in each of her first three years at Virginia.

In order to earn ITA Scholar-Athlete All-America honors at the NCAA level, a player must be a junior or senior in school, be a varsity letterwinner, and have a grade point average of at least 3.50 (on a 4.00 scale).

Virginia posted a 13-10 overall record in the 1999-2000 season and was 3-5 in the ACC. The Cavaliers were ranked 54th in the nation in the final WingspanBank.com rankings.
