CHARLOTTESVILLE - The University of Virginia women's tennis team kicked off the Fall portion of its schedule by competing at tournaments at UNC Wilmington and William & Mary over the past two weeks.
Virginia opened the season at the UNC Wilmington Landfall Invitational from September 8-10. Lindsey Pereira (Arlington, Texas) and Caroline Hammond (Williamsburg, Va.) both had strong tournaments, reaching the finals of the Gold Flight, where Pereira defeated Hammond in a superbreaker for the title. Pereira also won a doubles title, teaming with a UNCW player to win the crown, defeating the Cavalier duo of Hammond and Lara Alexander (London, England) in the final.
The following week at the W&M Invitational, the Cavaliers won one singles flight, and reached the final of another. First year Jessica Preeg (Naples, Fla.) won the Flight E title, while fellow first-year Brintney Larson (Orchard Park, N.Y.) reached the finals of Flight D.
