CHARLOTTESVILLE -- The Virginia women's tennis team concluded play at the UVa Invitational Sunday at the Snyder Tennis Center. The Cavaliers picked up ive singles wins and one doubles win on the final day of competiton.

"This was an incredible weekend for our team," said head coach Mark Guilbeau. "With the results over the first two weeks of the fall, I think everyone in our program realizes that we have things heading in the positive direction. It is very enjoyable for us to see this team compete against this level of competition at such a high level. They were able to learn, adjust and persevere on the courts and played with a lot of maturity."

In doubles, the Cavaliers got a win from the team of Lindsey Hardenbergh (Fairfax Station, Va.) and Neela Vaez (Perrysburgh, Ohio), who topped Zsofia Zubor and Natalie Pluskuta of Tennessee 9-8.

In singles play, the Cavaliers posted a 5-1 record on the day. Emily Fraser (Rye, N.Y.) defeated Rosalia Alda of Tennessee 6-2, 3-6, 6-2. Hardenbergh downed Pluskuta in straight sets, 6-1, 6-2. Amanda Rales (Bethesda, Md.) also posted a straight win, defeating Maria Sorbello of Tennessee 6-4, 6-3. Claire Bartlett (Chattanooga, Tenn) topped Jennifer Meredith of Tennessee 6-1, 4-6, 7-5 and Vaez defeated Arielle Vonstrolly of UNC Greensboro 0-6, 6-4, 6-1.

The Cavaliers will return to action next weekend as play begins at the ITA All-America Championships in Los Angeles.
