CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The Virginia women’s tennis team experienced success on day one of the UVA Fall Invite with two doubles teams advancing to the finals of their brackets and six singles players advancing in the main draw on Friday (Sept. 23).
All matches are being played at the Synder Tennis Center with Saturday’s competition beginning at 10 a.m.
Juniors Cassie Mercer (Huntington, W.V.) and Teodora Radosavljevic (Belgrade, Serbia), and freshmen Hunter Bleser (New Braunfels, Texas), Camille Favero (Sacramento, Calif.), Chloe Gullickson (Palm Beach Gardens Fla.) and Rosie Johanson (Abbotsford, British Columbia) all won their singles matches to advance in the main draw.
In doubles action, the pairing of Meghan Kelley (Falmouth, Maine) and Johanson advanced to the finals with a pair of wins on Friday along with the pairing of Gullickson and Mercer also advanced to the finals. Both will play their finals matches on Sunday (Sept. 25) morning.
Kelley and fellow sophomore Erica Susi (Vero Beach, Fla.) will play in the consolation bracket as singles play continues Saturday morning. In consolation doubles, the pairings of Bleser and Favero will play third place while the pairing of Radosavljevic and Susi will play in the consolation finals on Sunday.
