Cavaliers Advance in All-American Doubles Qualifying

LOS ANGELES -- Two Cavaliers advanced on the first day of qualifying at the 2008 ITA All-American Championships Tuesday at the Riviera Country Club. Jennifer Stevens (Miami, Fla.) advanced in singles and Stevens teamed with Amanda Rales (Bethesda, Md.) to advance in doubles.

In singles, No. 68 ranked Stevens won her opening round match against No. 44 ranked Elizabeth Plotkin of Duke 6-1, 2-6, 6-4. Later in the day, she fell to No. 67 ranked Marritt Boonstra of Florida in the second round, 4-6, 6-4, 6-4.

The No. 48 ranked doubles team of Rales and Stevens advanced to the second round of qualifying with an 8-4 win over No. 42 Jessica Nguyen and Logan Hansen of Stanford. They will meet No. 17 Ani Mijacika and Federica van Adrichem of Clemson in the second round.

Qualifying concludes on Wednesday with Main Draw play beginning on Thursday.
