CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – It was an all Cavalier final on Monday as the doubles team of Rosie Johanson (Abbotsford, British Columbia) and Meghan Kelley (Falmouth, Maine) claimed the doubles title at the ITA Atlantic Regional hosted by Virginia Tech.

The duo of Johanson and Kelley rallied after dropping the first set to defeat teammates Cassie Mercer (Huntington, W.V.) and Teodora Radosavljevic (Belgrade, Serbia) by a score of 6-7 (5), 6-3, 1-0 (7). The pairing of Johanson and Kelley was the top-seeded doubles team in the event, while the pairing of Mercer and Radosavljevic was seeded fifth.

In singles action, Johanson advanced to the semifinals on Tuesday as she defeated Eva Alexandrova of Maryland in straight sets between the doubles semifinals and finals on Monday. Johanson will now face Virginia Tech’s Elena Cerezo-Codina in the semifinals. Johanson is the top seed in singles, while Cerezo-Codina is seeded seventh.

Mercer, who was seeded fourth in singles, also competed in Monday’s singles quarterfinals, dropping her match to Clara Tanielian of William & Mary, 6-3, 6-1. Tanielian was seeded eighth in singles.

The singles semifinals and finals of the regional will both be played on Tuesday. Semifinals action begins at 11 a.m.

The event winners in singles and doubles advance to the Oracle ITA National Fall Championships. The 2017 Oracle ITA National Fall Championships, which serves as the concluding event to the fall portion of the college tennis schedule, is the only intercollegiate event to feature competitors from all five divisions competing for a national championship.

Through a combination of on-court competition and at-large berths and wild cards, there are several ways for student-athletes to qualify for the 2017 Oracle ITA National Fall Championships, which will be held November 1-5, at the JW Marriott Desert Springs Resort & Spa in Palm Desert, Calif., and the Indian Wells Tennis Garden in Indian Wells, Calif.
