UVa's Fischer Named ACC Rookie of the Week

First-Year Cited for the Second Time in Four Weeks

Charlottesville, Va. - Virginia outside hitter Andrea Fischer (Santa Barbara, Calif./Santa Barbara) was named as the Atlantic Coast Conference's Rookie of the Week by the conference office today for the week ending October 12. This marks the second time this season that Fischer has claimed the award. Fischer was named the ACC's ROTW for the week ending September 21.

For the week, Fischer had a .275 hitting percentage and registered 29 kills in 10 games played. Fischer also contributed nine service aces, including five in a win over Virginia Commonwealth. Fischer's play helped Virginia (13-9, 2-4 ACC) finish the week with two wins in four outings.

Georgia Tech's Lynette Anderson and Maryland's Elizabeth Efron shared the ACC's Player of the Week honor.

Virginia returns to action this weekend as they head south to take on Clemson (Friday, October 17-7:00 pm) and Georgia Tech (Saturday, October 18-7:00 pm) in conference matches. It will be the Cavaliers first meetings of the season with both schools.
