Chris Birch joined the Virginia volleyball program as its director of operations in August 2012.

Birch's primary duties include scouting opponents and using Data Volley and Data Video for scout matches and UVa matches, as well as assisting with team travel logistics. He will also help run the V-Sabre Volleyball Camps.

Birch was the volunteer head manager of the Penn State men's volleyball program from 2006-09 and served as a volunteer assistant coach of the national runner-up Nittany Lions in 2010.

During the summers of 2008 and 2009, Birch worked as a technical coordinator and team manager of the USA Men's Volleyball Pan American Cup teams and the USA Boys' Youth National Team that competed in the 2008 FIVB World Championships.

Birch most recently was the head coach of the Brandywine Heights (Topton, Pa.) boys' team in 2011 and was the assistant varsity coach at Exeter Township (Reading, Pa.) girls' team from 2010-12.

Birch is the co-founder of the US Elite Volleyball Camp and was the club director of the X-Factor Volleyball Cub in Reading, Pa., from 2010-12.

Birch attended Penn State while working with the men's volleyball program and is currently pursuing a degree in history.
