WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The Virginia volleyball team opened Atlantic Coast Conference play with a 3-0 (30-26, 30-28, 30-26) victory over Wake Forest Friday evening (September 24) at Reynolds Gym. It marks the first time since the 2000 season UVa has opened ACC play with a victory. The Cavaliers now stand at 11-2 overall and 1-0 in the ACC, while Wake falls to 8-3 and 0-1 in the league.

The victory snapped Virginia's six-match losing streak to the Demon Deacons, which dates back to the 2000 season. The previous time UVa began ACC play with a victory was a 3-2 triumph over Duke in the 2000 season. In addition, the win marked the Cavaliers' first win on the road in an ACC opener since defeating N.C. State 3-0 in the 1997 season.

Statistics for the match are unavailable at the present time.

UVa returns to action on Sunday (September 26) when it travels to Durham, N.C. for a 1:00 p.m. match.
