Cavaliers Stomp Marshall, 3-0

HUNTINGTON, W. VA - . - Claire Folga (Atlanta, Ga./Marist Academy) has 13 kills and nine assists to lead Virginia to a 3-0 win over Marshall in the first game of the 1997 Marshall Radisson Tournament. Jessica Parsons (Green Oaks, Ill./Libertyville) chipped in with 10 kills and 11 digs as UVa snapped an three-match losing streak with the win.

Mary Frances Scott (Phoenix, Ariz./ Xavier College Prep) led the Cavalier offense with 35 assists. A tough UVA defense forced 10 hitting errors and the Thundering Herd were able to hit just 179 percent (.179) for the match. Shannon Wahlers (Phoenix, Ariz. independence) had seven kills and just two errors for the Cavaliers, who hit 293 percent (.293) as a team. Marshall (4-4) was led by Alisha Babie, who finished with eight kills.

Virginia (5-4) used just nine players during the match due to numerous injuries.

The tournament continues tomorrow afternoon as Virginia takes on Indiana at 1:00 pm and Cincinnati at 5:30 pm.
