CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. -
Virginia head volleyball coach Melissa Aldrich Shelton has announced the addition of Brittani Rendina (Lisle, Ill./Benet Academy) to the UVa volleyball program. Rendina has transferred to UVa from Rutgers University and will join the team this fall as a second-year.
"When Brittani contacted us and said she was interested in transferring to UVA, I knew she was someone we wanted on our team," said Shelton. "She is a great ball control player who will immediately compete for time across the back row. She is also a fiery competitor who hates to lose, another trait that will only strengthen our team. Her year of experience at Rutgers and her multiple years of experience on Sports Performance's top teams have prepared her well for the high level of volleyball she will face every day in the ACC."
In 2006 at Rutgers, Rendina led the Scarlet Knights with 314 digs (3.53 per game), the ninth highest single season total in school history. She also topped Rutgers with 24 service aces. Rendina started 13 of 25 matches at outside hitter and donned the libero jersey for 12 other matches. She was one of three players to appear in all 89 games. Rendina also tallied 95 kills while hitting .102. She registered three matches in double figures in kills, including a career-best 17 vs. Harvard (Sept. 9). Rendina had 15 double-digit digs matches, including four with 20 or more. She set a career high with 25 digs against James Madison (Aug. 26) and tallied 24 digs vs. South Florida (Oct. 22) and Fordham (Nov. 1).
At Benet Academy, Rendina was an East Suburban Catholic Conference 2005 All-Conference team selection as a senior in 2005. She was the team MVP in 2005 and served as a captain in 2003 and 2005. Rendina was also a Chicago Sun Times All-Area team selection in 2005. She was a four-year member of the honor roll and a member of the National Honor Society.
Rendina played club volleyball for Sports Performance Volleyball Club from 2000 to 2006. She played on the same team as rising UVa second-year Tara Hester (Naperville, Ill./Naperville Central) in 2006.
"I am excited that Brittani chose to attend UVA and walk-on to our team. I'm confident it will be a win-win situation for everyone involved."
Rendina is the fifth addition to the Cavalier volleyball team for the 2007 season. She joins first-year recruits A.J. Cushman (Richmond, Va./James River), Sydney Hill (Kalamazoo Mich./Portage Northern), Kelly Irvin (Pacific Palisades, Calif./Marymount) and Kendahl Voelker (Fort Myers, Fl./Canterbury).
