CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The Virginia volleyball team (3-3) is back home to host its second non-conference tournament with the Jefferson Cup on Friday and Saturday in Memorial Gymnasium.

SCHEDULE OF PLAY
UVA will host VCU on Friday night at 7 p.m. The Cavaliers will then play Howard at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday before closing the tournament with Ohio at 7 p.m.
The remainder of the schedule will be Howard vs. Ohio on Friday at 4 p.m. On Saturday, VCU and Ohio play at 9:30 a.m. and Howard and VCU play at 5 p.m.
Freshman Sarah Billiard (Matthews, N.C.) continued her hot-hitting with a 20-kill performance in the win over Appalachian State last weekend. Billiard currently leads the Cavaliers with 3.29 kills per set.
Sophomore Chino Anukwuem (East Hanover, N.J.) has been a force at the net, averaging 1.10 blocks per set with 23 total on the season.
Sophomore Jelena Novakovic (Belgrade, Serbia) has been a steady presence on the court ranking second among the team with 2.17 kills per set, 2.81 digs per set and 0.90 blocks per set.
The Cavaliers finished 2-1 in their season-opening tournament at home with wins over Hofstra and Liberty.
VCU (6-2) has won three-straight matches entering this weekend. The Rams are led by Alicia Kandler with 68 kills (2.43 per set). Three players have over 60 kills on the year so far. Tori Baldwin leads the defense with 1.52 blocks per set, while Jasmine Sneed is adding 1.50 per set. Rebekah Strange paces the back line with 4.61 digs per set. Virginia leads the all-time series 21-14 over VCU. The Cavaliers won the most recent meeting, 3-1, in their home tournament on Sept. 4, 2015.
Howard (1-6) as lost four-straight matches, most recently falling to California-Riverside last weekend. The Bison are led by Khaila Donaldson with 3.73 kills per set. Two players are averaging over 1.00 blocks per set, led by Sydney Jackson with 1.33. This will be just the second meeting between UVA and Howard. The Cavaliers won the only other contest 2-1 in 1983.
Ohio (5-3) is coming off a 3-1 win over Marshall on Tuesday after going 1-2 with a win over Oklahoma in the Bobcat Invitational last weekend. Three players are averaging over 3.00 kills per set, led by Jaime Kosiorek’s 3.92 average. Tia Jimerson leads the Bobcats at the net with 1.31 blocks per set. Virginia and Ohio are meeting for the fifth time, with the teams tied 2-2 in the series. The Bobcats edged the Cavaliers, 3-2, in the most recent matchup on Sept. 14, 2013.
Free Virginia sunglasses will be given out to the first 200 fans before Friday’s match vs. VCU. On Saturday, fans will receive free admission to both matches with a Virginia football vs. Indiana ticket.
Game-day parking for volleyball matches is available free of charge at the Culbreth Road Garage, located behind Carr’s Hill Field, on a first come, first serve basis.
Virginia athletics has updated its bag policies to mirror those already in place for Scott Stadium. At Klöckner Stadium, Turf Field and Memorial Gymnasium the following procedures have been put into effect.
All guests are subject to inspection and search for prohibited items. Event staff will examine the contents of bags, jackets, pockets, or any other personal item before admitting guests to the facility. In order to expedite entrance into the facility, it is recommended that guests not bring bags to events and arrive early at the facility entrances.

- Balls, Frisbees, lacrosse sticks, and similar items
- Containers (including plastic or glass bottles, cans, coolers, or flasks)

^For men's and women's soccer matches only, artificial noisemakers are allowed; however air horns, whistles, bullhorns or devices that amplify electric sound, including battery-operated devices, are prohibited.

The above procedures are designed to provide a safe and positive experience for all fans in attendance at Virginia athletics events.
