Virginia (14-7, 6-4 ACC) looks to get back to its winning ways after starting the season 6-0 in Memorial Gymnasium. Last weekend, UVA swept Boston College, 3-0, but fell to No. 24 Louisville, 3-0, for its first loss of the season at home.
At the mid-way point of conference play, the Cavaliers are tied for sixth in the standings. Statistically, Virginia is second in the ACC with 1.57 service aces per set and fourth with a .250 hitting percentage on the season. Senior Natalie Bausback (Carlsbad, Calif.) needs 24 kills to become the 17th player in UVA history to reach 1,000 career kills.
Virginia opened ACC play against Duke and Wake Forest earlier this season. The Cavaliers picked up a 3-1 win over the Blue Devils to break a 17-match losing streak, but fell to the Demon Deacons in a close five-set match, 3-2.
Wake Forest (10-13, 2-9 ACC) has lost three-straight matches entering Friday’s contest, including a 3-1 loss to Duke on Wednesday night. The Demon Deacons rank 12th in the league standings and are led by Kylie Long with 3.69 kills per set.
Duke (11-10, 6-5 ACC) has been playing well, carrying a three-match win streak into Saturday’s matchup. The Blue Devils are just one spot behind UVA at seventh in the league standings. Emily Sklar leads the team with 3.92 kills per set, while Sasha Karelov is averaging 5.10 digs per set in ACC play to lead the conference.
Following this weekend, Virginia will be back on the road as it travels to Miami (Nov. 6) and Florida State (Nov. 8).
