CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Virginia volleyball senior Jasmine Burton (West Hills, Calif.) was named to the All-Atlantic Coast Conference Second Team, the league announced on Monday (Nov. 28).
“I am very excited that the coaches in the conference recognized the year that Jasmine has had,” head coach Dennis Hohenshelt said. “Our staff felt the numbers she was putting up, especially the last half of the year, should put her in the Player of the Year discussion. She had a very good year and made significant improvements in her blocking, defense and serving. She carried a huge load for us offensively and was one of the most dominant attackers in the league this year.”
Burton led Virginia with a .282 hitting percentage and 36 service aces in the 2016 season. The outside hitter finished with 341 kills to average 2.84 per set, second on the team, and had 125 digs and 79 blocks. Burton recorded double-digit kills in 17 matches, including 10-straight to close the season. She continued to improve over the second half the year, averaging 3.73 kills per set on a .334 hitting percentage in 15 matches. Burton closed her career with 1,139 kills to rank 12th, and finished with a .271 career hitting percentage, which ranks sixth all-time in UVA history.
This is Burton’s third ACC honor, after being named to the second team in 2014 and the third team in 2013. She was also named the 2013 ACC Freshman of the Year.
