Jasmine Burton Receives AVCA All-Region Honors

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - Virginia volleyball senior Jasmine Burton (West Hills, Calif.) earned American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) All-East Coast Regional Honorable Mention honors the AVCA announced on Tuesday (Dec. 6). 

“I am very excited for Jasmine,” head coach Dennis Hohenshelt said. “When you get into this level of awards there are a large number of great players to compare and contrast. Over the year she put up very good numbers against some of the nation’s best teams. I am pleased that the committee was able to recognize what Jasmine accomplished and reward her for all of her efforts during the season.”

This is the first all-region honor for Burton, who led Virginia with a .282 hitting percentage and 36 service aces in the 2016 season. The outside hitter finished with 341 kills to average 2.84 per set, second on the team, and had 125 digs and 79 blocks.

An All-ACC Second Team selection, Burton recorded double-digit kills in 17 matches, including 10-straight to close the season. She continued to improve over the second half the year, averaging 3.73 kills per set on a .334 hitting percentage in 15 matches. Burton closed her career with 1,139 kills to rank 12th, and finished with a .271 career hitting percentage, which ranks sixth all-time in UVA history.
