2006-07 Coed Cheerleadering Squad
The University of Virginia has two cheerleading squads: Coed and All Girl. The Coed squad has eight couples and the All Girl squad has sixteen members. Both squads cheer at the football games, however, they split up to cheer at men's and women's basketball games. During the school year, the cheerleaders practice around five times a week, not including games. The practices involve running, partner stunting, tumbling, pyramids, and conditioning. There are also pre-game practices about two hours before each football game and basketball game. ACC rules permit six couples to travel to the away games.

Summer Activities: The cheerleaders hold two full summer practices, one in June and one in July, to gear up for camp and the coming year. They also practice on their own time, communicating through emails to get together anyone in town and free to work out. The cheerleaders have a workout schedule to follow, which includes running, weight lifting, tumbling, abs, jump rope, and push-ups. They attended UCA camp in late July, learning new stunts, pyramids, basket tosses, and tumbling as well as working on material for the upcoming year.
Fundraising: The cheerleaders at UVA fundraise to pay for their uniforms, camp costs, and travel expenses. They have taught about 21 cheerleading camps this summer to middle and high schools all around Virginia. The camps are 2 to 4 days long with coaching in cheers, sidelines, dances, and stunts.
Goals: The University of Virginia offers book scholarships to the people that make the teams in April. We would like to be financially able to offer merit scholarships to those cheerleaders that go above and beyond. If you would like to donate to a scholarship fund specifically dedicated to the cheerleaders that participate in the most community service events and carry the highest GPAs, please contact Kelley Carter (email@example.com) to make a donation.

The University of Virginia Dance Team is comprised of 15 dancers. The Dance Team performs sideline and halftime routines at home football and basketball games, which are choreographed by the coaches and team's captains. The team supports fellow UVA teams by bringing spirit and enthusiasm to the games with their routines, providing the crowd with exciting entertainment. The girls devote several hours a week to practicing and conditioning in order to maintain a physically fit appearance and a high level of jazz technique. The girls also dedicate time to their community, making appearances at other university-sponsored activities and events in Charlottesville. They are supported in part by UVA Athletics and are provided with dance attire, medical care, and scholarships. The Dance Team is a proud member of UVA Athletics and is enthusiastic about the teams it supports!
