CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Virginia wide receiver Malik Washington (Lawrenceville, Ga.) was chosen by the Miami Dolphins during the sixth round of the 2024 National Football League Draft. He was the 184th overall player selected in the draft.

Washington had a breakout season with the Cavaliers in 2023, garnering All-America honors from 13 different publications. He was a first team All-ACC selection and one of 10 semifinalists for the Biletnikoff Award. Washington amassed an ACC record 110 receptions and a UVA record 1,426 receiving yards. He surpassed UVA’s single-season receptions and receiving yards records in 11 games.

His 110 receptions and school-record 10 100-yard receiving games led all FBS pass catchers. Washington caught nine touchdowns, including multi-TD games against NC State and Duke. He accounted for the go-ahead score in UVA’s 31-27 victory over then-No. 10 North Carolina on Oct. 22. Washington was also recognized as a finalist for the Pop Warner College Football Award.

In the classroom, Washington posted a 4.0 GPA working towards his graduate degree in higher education after transferring from Northwestern. He was voted a first-team Academic All-American by the College Sports Communicators. As an undergrad at Northwestern, he finished with a 3.73 GPA and was listed on the Academic All-Big Ten team three times. He was named a 2021-22 Big Ten Distinguished Scholar.

Following the conclusion of the season, he was one of five Cavaliers named team captains for the 2023 season.
